It's a cold and rainy Friday night here in Toronto, so this recent sketchbook piece seems sort of appropriate. It's crying pentagram face lady!

Is the Illustration business really this bad?

This morning while driving my son to school, we passed a trio of political signs posted on someone's front lawn. John Alcorn, Robert Crawford and Stan Watts are all running for city councilman or some such position. Now community service is an honorable thing, and I applaud them for their dedication, but does this really mark some even deeper decline in the illustration business that all these great artists have to go into politics. That is a real low point.

It's been awhile since Trio Magnus, the little collective I'm part of, has produced a collaborative project. However, for the last month we've been hooking up once a week, cracking tall cans of Sapporo and cranking out a 6 ft. square drawing each time. We plan to convert the drawings into smaller prints and sell them at an upcoming comic festival here in Toronto, so stay tuned for more info. Golden Pump

Had a holiday break for a spell in late January. After that in February I've been working on several charity based projects lately. Still one to go, and a couple of illustration assignments. The one I'm posting is for the St Louis AIGA chapter, and the American Heart Association. The Heart, one of those two special organs. I leave the second to your choice. I've painted the heart a couple of times before, and wanted to try push another direction. This painting is oils on wooden panel, with gold leaf on the sides/edges. The heart is supposedly the seat of love, maybe it's the love of life. Hope yours keeps pumping.
